Dom omladine Belgrade and the society Ljudi za zivotinje (People for animals) will on February 19th organize the first big public event of adopting abandoned dogs and cats. Dom omladine Belgrade will be the first cultural institution that will open its doors for such an activity, with the aim to raise public awareness about animal rights.
As an announcement for the event, and with the aim of promoting adoption as the most humane way of solving the problem of stray dogs and cats, we are organizing a panel about adoption, with the goal of popularizing it. We would like for adopted animals to become a trend and a sign of prestige, as it is the case with pedigreed animals. We believe that adopting mixed breeds and animals with handicaps should become a politically correct thing, and we think that stray animals should be renamed to animals which are yet without a home.
Abandoned dogs and cats were forced to live on the street after irresponsible owners threw them out. Adopting them is the most humane way of taking care of them and giving them a home, and the most effective in which citizens can contribute to solving the problem of abandoned animals.
Volunteers who take everyday care of these animals will be talking about the problems they mostly face: the misunderstanding, disinterest of citizens to adopt mixed breeds and animals with handicaps, unscrupulous dog and cat owners who leave kittens and puppies on the street in cardboard boxes or throw them in trash bins.
We will be talking about the advantages of children who grow up with pets and expert findings about the psychological development of these children, their upbringing and needs, as well as how people treat animals and the new regulations on keeping domestic animals and pets.
This panel will be an opportunity to get all the information you need, as well as to give your suggestions about the big event Adoption.
