Conference “Open Wiki GLAM of Serbia”
GLAM is the English acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums, but it also includes other institutions such as theatre, zoos, botanical gardens, public emitters etc.
The conference Open Wiki GLAM of Serbia is part of the project of the same name, created to popularize the use of Internet and free content in creating and improving access to cultural and historical treasures of our land via Internet.
The project consists of two parts:
1. Starting an Internet portal with a .rs top level domain that will provide information to GLAM institutions about the project and how to protect intellectual property on the Internet. The website address is glam.wikimedia.org
2. The second part of the project is a conference in Belgrade with representatives of galleries, libraries, archives, museums, zoos and botanical gardens, with the topic on how to use Internet and Wikimedia’s projects to popularize their institutions, the development of digital forms on the global network and creating free content.
The conference will guest several speakers from Serbia and abroad. Why should there be cooperation with Wikimedia? Every cultural institution has a great amount of recourses to share. A partnership with Wikimedia is a cheap and highly influential way to disseminate your recourses among Internet users.
The Wikimedia Foundation is officially one of the most influential foundations in the world, and its projects are marked by large popularity of which we should only mention Wikipedia, the fifth most popular website in the world with over 20 million articles on over 280 languages.
Is Wikimedia experienced in working with cultural institutions? Yes. This is an incomplete list of institutions that have cooperated with Wikimedia: Archives of American Art, Children's Museum of Indianapolis, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) iz New York City, New York Public Library, Smithsonian Institution, British Museum, UK, British Library, UK, The National Archives
