Screening of the film “Sengoku Basara”
In cooperation with the Embassy of Japan and the Society of Lovers of Popular Japanese Culture - SAKURABANA. Free entrance!
Sakurabana has already organized screenings of both these series. Cheering of the public, laughter and spontaneous applause in a crowded hall, is the best proof that they should be watched in a large group. Now we will proudly screen the film Sengoku Basara. This is an experience you don’t want to miss, even if your knowledge of the samurai age isn’t your stronger side.
In a psychedelic, surreal version of medieval Japan, in which samurais pay equal attention to clothing and styling as much as to their warrior skills, ancient families fight for territorial dominance. This is, more or less, the whole story. But if anything can prove that even a linear plot which neglects logic, and is a shameless abuse of historical facts, can still bring spectacular fun, than that’s Sengoku Basara.
This franchise began as a series of video games, to appear a few years ago as an anime series. Its unexpected success quickly led to sequels in the form of another TV series, as well as a movie which premiered in Japan last year.
