“MERLINKA” – The Fourth International Queer Film Festival
The Fourth International Queer Film Festival "Merlinka" will be held from December 13 to 17 , 2012 in the Main Hall of Dom omladine Belgrade. Over 40 short, feature and documentary films were selected for the five-day festival. This year’s slogan is Transformation and some of the films feature transsexuality as their main theme. The aim of the "Merlinka" festival is to transform the Serbian society, with the help of the film industry, into a tolerant society that accepts diversity of its members.
Festival organizers singled out the award-winning Turkish film Zenne Dancer which is based on a true story, the American film The Perfect Family with the legendary Kathleen Turner, the French film The String starring film diva Claudia Cardinale, the Canadian film Cloudburst with Oscar winners Brenda Fricker and Olympia Dukakis, as well as the Dutch documentary I'm a Woman Now which talks about transsexuals who had sex change in the first half of the 20th century and are now middle-aged women.
The Festival is jointly organized by the Gay and Lesbian Info Centre and Dom Omladine Belgrade with the support of Heinrich Boell Stiftung , the Ministry of Culture and Information, Office for Human and Minority Rights, the Goethe Institute, the French Institute, UNDP, the Dutch Embassy and the Canadian Embassy.
