AMSTERDAMAmsterdam’s New Culture Festival in Belgrade, from 28 to 30 November 2008

As a part of its program “The Guest City” the cultural centre Dom Omladine Belgrade organizes this year the festival with the title A Rough Guide to Amsterdam setting as an objective to present during the last weekend in November the latest tendencies of the culture of this fabulous Dutch city to the audience of Belgrade. The participants of this festival will be some of the most important young artists in the sphere of music, theatre, visual arts, new media and films. And according to the organizers not only the works of the young artists will be presented but also the circumstances under which these young artists create them.



Room-ElevenAs a part of the music festival the biggest Dutch pop band Room Eleven will officially open the manifestation and introduce its pop-hits in the concert that will take place in Dom Omladine Belgrade. Besides the band Room Eleven the Dutch rave band AUX RAUS will also have its performance on November 29 along with four popular Belgrade musicians gathered together in the band called Banana Rave.

And as to theatre there will be performances of the artist Edit Kaldor and the theatre group called Max.

The festival A Rough Guide to Amsterdam will also be a part of another popular festival in Belgrade namely “The New Festival of Original Films” (Novi festival autorskog filma in Serbian) that will play the Dutch films “The Sky Above Holland” and “The Skin” which have the common subject: the controversial political circumstances exposed in the killing of the film director Theo Van Gogh and a neo-Nazi movement in the Netherlands.

During the festival debates and workshops will also be organized intending to cover the actual topics of the world politics as well as the relations between the Netherlands and Serbia in the light of the European integrations. In this segment of the program the participation of the leading politicians or the members of their teams, popular media people and other intellectuals from both Amsterdam and Belgrade is expected by the organizers.

The programs of the festival will be performed at the exhibition rooms and theatres of Dom Omladine Belgrade, Centre for Cultural Decontamination, Magacin in Kraljevića Marka 4, Cultural Centre of Belgrade, the Art Cinema and other popular places.

This Festival is a joint project of the cultural centres De Balie and Melkweg from Amsterdam and Dom Omladine Belgrade.

This manifestation is sponsored by the Secretariat of Culture of the City of Belgrade, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Fonds voor Amateurkunst en Podiumkunsten, SICA, CCAA – Film Fonds, Heineken and JAT Airways.

The manifestation “The Guest City” was organized for the first time four years ago and has become in the meanwhile one of the trade marks of Dom Omladine Belgrade in the field of international cultural cooperation. During this period the exchange programs have been performed through this manifestation with the cities of Ljubljana (both in Ljubljana and in Belgrade), Budapest, Bergen and Amsterdam.
