Since the founding of Samostalni Referenti in 1996, the energetic performances of this ten member band have regularly attracted lovers of the tireless "skanking". Their sound is an authentic dance mix of ska and punk, stirred with melodies of the violin and harmonica, instruments not usual for these musical genres.
About their new video for the song “Zivot je san”, which premiered on November 23rd, 2011, the members of the band Samostalni referenti said:
“Even though it looks like a summer day, the video was made on October 5th, on a great location in Grocka. We were able to grab the last warm day, but the pool water was only 16 degrees, so when we finally got the courage to go in, we went crazy for 15 minutes to make as many good clips as possible, in the water, and under it. We have to thank our friends Nemanja and Marko who helped us find this great location. We hope the audience will like the video and that it’ll warm them up in the cold winter days. “
Samostalni Referenti played with the bands like NBG, Direktori, Atheist Rap, Elvis Jackson from Slovenia and Bluekilla from Germany, and they performed on festivals both in Serbia and the region. They also had a few concerts in the Slovakia. After almost 16 years of “working underground”, a few hundred concerts and without an official album, Samostalni Referenti finally finished the recording of their first studio album that’s been available for free download on the regional MTV website since November 23rd, 2011. The recording of the album “The GreaTESTIS Hits” took four years and was done in the Belgrade studio Underground. The album has 19 songs, among them “Zivot je san”, for which the mentioned video was made.
